NEPTUNE PARK

Public BBQ

Neptune Park in Mernda sits perched on elevated ground, offering a surprisingly comprehensive recreational experience despite its modest footprint. The centrepiece playground caters brilliantly to various age groups, featuring a tunnel slide that younger visitors seem to favour, three swings including toddler-friendly options, and an impressive climbing rope structure that challenges older children. The sandpit, complete with diggers and a sand table, provides endless entertainment, though the water pump appears to have given up the ghost during my visit. What sets this park apart is its thoughtful diversity of facilities. A proper basketball court anchors the sporting options, while outdoor fitness equipment adds appeal for health-conscious visitors. The undercover BBQ area provides welcome respite, though reaching it requires navigating a steep hill and multiple stairs - a consideration for those with prams or mobility aids. The dusty conditions during summer months seem inevitable given the elevated position, but this minor inconvenience hardly detracts from the park's charm. The absence of toilet facilities represents the only significant drawback to an otherwise well-designed community space.
